Call for Volunteers - Eurovision Song Contest 2012

The National Assembly of Youth Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan (NAYORA) is pleased to announce the call for volunteers to serve during the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 that will be held from 22nd till 26th of May 2012. The volunteers are supposed to arrive on 20th May and depart on 27th May. 

 

The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the longest running television shows in the world. It was on the 24th of May, 1956, that Europe saw the first ever Eurovision Song Contest. After 56 runnings, the contest is one of the most typical European traditions and without doubt, Europe's favorite TV show!

 

Accommodation and Costs

NAYORA will provide accommodation and meals. The costs of local transportation will also be covered by NAYORA. The volunteers will be required to cover the travel costs to Baku, Azerbaijan.

Student Conference in Maribor 2012

SCiM 2012 is a chance to do it all!!

Like every year, SCiM is being organized for you. You will already be the 14th generation of students to in SCiM. In 10 days you will have the opportunity to be active in different workshops. This year’s topic is connected with the European year of Active Ageing and Solidarity between generations.

SCiM (Student Conference in Maribor) is the biggest project of the Department of International Affairs, at the Student Organization of University in Maribor. Each year more than 80 students from different countries are gathered at this event.

This year SCiM will be held from the 22nd June till the 2nd of July. On this, the 14th SCiM we will prepare theoretical and practical workshops. Theoretical workshops will be based on different topics. Some of them are as follows:

- How to be active when getting old

- How to live a healthy life

- Solidarity between generations

- Youth employment issues

In practical workshops you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself in

- Video workshops

- Foto workshops

- Dance workshops

- Theatre workshops

But don't worry! There will also be a lot of time for having fun, meeting new people, exploring Maribor and Slovenia, and spending 10 unforgettable days in your life!

STEP Beyond Travel Grants

STEP Beyond Travel grants fund up-and-coming artists and cultural workers - with a priority to individuals up to 35 years and/or in the first 10 years of their career - to travel between EU and countries bordering the EU. Since 2003, STEP  - which stands for ‘Supporting Travel for European Partnerships’ - Beyond Travel Grants have supported the movement of hundreds of people across European borders by providing between €250 and €700. In 2010, we awarded 159 individual travel grants of between €250 and €700.

Funding mobility and exchange links closely to ECF’s overall objectives and specifically to our European Neighbourhood programme, which currently works with organisations in Moldova, Ukraine and Turkey. Also high on our agenda is support for people and projects in the Arab-Mediterranean regions. We especially welcome applications for STEP Beyond Travel Grants from these regions.

STEP Beyond Travel grants support artists and cultural workers based in one of the following countries: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, The Netherlands, Norway, Palestinian Territories, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom.

All the activities of the ECF mobility fund are revolved around three strategic guiding principles:

1. Empowerment of people through art and culture – support is given to different communities in Europe to encourage the exchange and empowerment of under-represented groups.
2. Connecting sources of knowledge – sharing and connecting knowledge is vital in creating an open Europe.
3. Linking policy and practice projects that help build an open Europe by contributing to cultural policy development locally, nationally, regionally and at a European level.

Eligibility

• Artists or cultural workers of any contemporary artistic or cultural discipline (individual or representing a cultural or artistic independent organisation);
• Based in Europe or in its neighborhood;
• Maximum 35 years old.

What countries can you travel to and from?
In order to facilitate the functioning of the fund as well as to reach its aims, the larger pan-European area has been divided in two groups.

• Group A: The 27 Member States of the European Union; The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
• Group B: In Europe: Western Balkans(Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, (FYROM),Montenegro and Serbia), Belarus, Moldavia, Russia, South Caucasus (Armenia,Azerbaijan and Georgia) Turkey and Ukraine. In the South and East Mediterranean: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya,Morocco, Palestine Territory, Syria and Tunisia.

Types of grants

The STEP beyond offers three types of grants (350, 500 and 700 Euro) based on travel distances and average travel costs. The eligible applications are evaluated by the STEP beyond team during the pre-selection phase, after this assessment ECF decides which proposal it will support. Both awarded  and rejected applicants are notified by e-mail around one month after the application submission date.

In case of group travel:

• a maximum of three individuals applying for the same event;
• group applications need to be submitted by the host organisation.

Learning Arabic Language and Culture in Morocco

An Arabic Language and Culture session is a special activity that the Forum Communication des Cultures (FCC) organizes this year. The sessions will be held in Youssoufia/Rabat, Morocco.

The objectives of this activity are:

- Giving to people the opportunity to get basic knowledge about Arabic language and culture. That knowledge could be useful for him in their studies or in their daily life or in their travels in countries speaking this language.

- Giving the opportunity to people to get in touch with the Moroccan culture and its way of life, and in consequences achieve a fruitful cultural exchange.

- Giving the opportunity to people has some basic knowledge about this language to brush up it and be adapted to different ways to use it.

- Trying to connect Volunteers with friends from abroad so as to correspond between them in English or Arabic as a tool to promote their international understaning and knowledge and establish new friendship.

The courses are given by teachers’ members of FCC, who've got special training for this mission. Those teachers are flexible in managing those courses and are ready to cooperate with the participants so as to fulfil their expectations.

13 hours of learning courses per week are envisaged (Monday to Friday, morning from 9.30 to 12.00). The curriculum includes Arabic Culture, Calligraphy, Arabic language courses, Pronounciation.

At their arrival the participants will be given the FCC Arabic Language Guide.

The intercultural exchange sessions that will be organised during the Arabic program is an occasion offered by FCC to all the participants so as to present, exchange and discuss together the knowledge they got from the families.

Accommodation

The participants lodge and eat in families during the whole period. Staying with a family is a tool for FCC to give the occasion to the participants to use the Arabic language and also to discover the Moroccan way of life. All the participants are asked to respect the families’ environment and don’t behave against the local tradition; they are also asked to be sociable and are open mind so as to built good and fruitful communication with their members.

EuroBelgrade 2011

Euro Belgrade 2011 is an international student sports tournament that is organized by the Faculty of organizational sciences from Belgrade (Serbia) and supported by the entire University of Belgrade. It will take place from 14th to 17th of October and during those four days students will have the opportunity to play futsal, volleyball, basketball or waterpolo during the day and party in the night. All of the games will be played at one place, in a sport complex that is positioned in a forest called Kosutnjak (the very heart of Belgrade nature) which many people find as one of the most beautiful green parts of the city. 

When you come here, besides playing sports, we will take to you visit some of the most attractive and famous Belgrade sights because our wish is to make you feel as pleasant as you can. We also want you to feel comfortable, so you can choose between three options when it comes to accomodation: you can be situated in a hotel, hostel or a gym. It depends on what you like the best. International Youthcamp 2011

International Youthcamp2011 will take place on 12-14 August 2011, in Ballerup, Denmark. Active young people from all over the EU will meet to jointly develop ideas, debate democracy and establish networks across geographical borders. The activities at the Youthcamp will strengthen the young people in their work developing projects for and with young people in their local area, and engaging other young people in the democratic decision-making processes.

The camp consists of a series of workshops, where Danish and foreign presenters talk about e.g. inter alia, international political cooperation, project development and youth participation. The camp also offers social and cultural events, such as film, music, swimming, video art, song writing and much more. As a participant in the camp you will help to shape the camp and its contents.

Youthcamp Organizer Group consists of young people from Fingal in Ireland, Nacka in Sweden, Adalar in Turkey and Ballerup in Denmark.

The personal goals for the participants of the camp are to:

LEARN IT – share knowledge and experiences!
SHARE IT – create networks and relations!
DO IT – participate in social and cultural activities!

The underlying and bigger goal of the camp is to tell the world, the political leaders and the people around us that young people have dreams and ideas and want to express their opinions and to get their voices through to the political leaders. 

Eligibility  

Youthcamp2011 participants must be between the ages of 15 and 25 when the camp is held (12-14 August 2011). The Youthcamp is for young people, who have some experience with the democratic process through youth projects, youth councils or youth organizations.

Conditions for participation

Participants younger than 18 years must be accompanied by an adult or a leader over 18. The name of the leader must be provided on the registration form.

It is possible for several people from the same project, youth council, etc. to attend. If you attend as a group, the group’s other participants must be included on the registration form. If you attend as part of a group, it must be stated who is responsible for the group on the registration form.

Accommodation, food and activities

Youthcamp2011 provides accommodation, food and water for the participants free of charge. Activities described in the Youthcamp2011 programme are also free for the participants, but they must pay for OFFSITE activities requested which are not offered by Youthcamp2011.

Transport and travel costs

You are responsible for your own transport to and from Copenhagen Airport/Train Station, a mini-bus will be provided to collect you and transport you to the camp. Youthcamp2011 provides directions, timetables, etc. at www.youthcamp2011.eu, where you can also download the mini-site for mobile phones. The participants pay their own travel costs to and from Youthcamp2011.

Cultural Diplomacy in Europe: A Forum for Young Leaders (CDE) 2011

The forthcoming weeklong seminar for "Cultural Diplomacy in Europe: A Forum for Young Leaders" (CDE) will take place in Berlin, on July 4th – 10th, 2011. In addition to looking in greater detail at the history and development of cultural diplomacy, the next CDE Weeklong Seminar will focus in particular on the following theme "The EU as a Global Actor – From the Inside Out: The Internal Development of the European Union and its Future Role in an Interdependent World".

Cultural Diplomacy in Europe: A Forum for Young Leaders (CDE) is a network of young, influential people from across the world, who have an interest in exploring and strengthening relations between European States. The program is based on the recognition that the increasing economic and political integration of the European Union must be accompanied by sustained activity to ensure that public opinion and relations between individual member states, and between member-states and non members states, remain positive and constructive at the grass roots level.

Individuals can join the CDE Forum by taking part in one of the CDE Weeklong Seminars, which are held in Berlin every 4 months. Each CDE Weeklong Seminar will be focused on a specific theme related to Europe and the goals of the Forum. These Weeklong Seminars include lectures, seminars, and workshops lead by experts from the fields of politics, academia, and civil society, as well as cultural and social activities and provides an opportunity to network and experience Berlin.

Once they have joined the CDE Forum, members are supported by the ICD in organizing leadership initiatives, conducting academic research, and are invited to join the ICD Online Forum - enabling them to share information and communicate with likeminded individuals across the world.

The program is open to applications from young professionals, students and scholars, civil society practitioners, private sector representatives, journalists, and other interested stakeholders from across the world. If you would like to be considered for a place in the Weeklong Seminar please complete the online application form.

The participation cost for the program is 195 Euros. If offered a place in the program, applicants are then required to transfer the participation cost to reserve their position.The ICD is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organization and the Participation Cost goes towards the cost of developing and running the program.

European Youth Week in Novi Sad - actWins 2011

eYouwins - The European Youth Week in Novi Sad is the one of the first and the largest youth festival with a thematic focus in Serbia. eYouwins is dedicated to youth in Serbia, Europe and worldwide, and its mission is to promote the spirit of cooperation, to link cultures, ideas and, above all, people. Festival has started in 2006 and in short time has gained popularity among young people all over Europe. During the last four years more than 5000 young people were involved in the Festival events and almost 400 guests from 25 countries visited Novi Sad and Serbia.

The sixth European Youth Week in Novi Sad, Activism Week - actWins 2011 - will be held between 16th and 23rd August 2011. Central activities will be organized in Novi Sad. Accommodation and food will be organized in student dormitories, and student restaurants. The organizer of the Festival is the Creative Educational Centre Novi Sad, in cooperation with the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad.

The Festival focus is every year on current topic of interest for youth in Serbia, region and the world. It fosters real-life intercultural dialogue, exploration of cultural diversity, development of knowledge, personal skills and attitudes. The aim is to promote and encourage active participation of young people in all aspects of society and help equipping them with necessary knowledge, skills and competences for current and future challenges. eYouwins offers experience of meeting different cultures and becoming more open towards them in order to contribute in battle against all existing borders, especially intolerance and prejudices. Promoting communication, acceptance of differences and tolerance among youth, enabling to meet as many young people from other cultures and other nations as possible enriches experience of young people and result in highly demanded skill in modern society – skill of intercultural dialogue.

Participation fee for actWins is 60 EURO for international participants and there is a reduced participation fee for the participants from Serbia.

The participation fee covers accommodation, and meals during the Festival (light brekfast, lunch and dinner per day), organised excursions, sightseeing, entrance fees, and free participation in trips, conference programme, cultural and sport events of the Festival. Travel costs and personal expenses are not included! Accepted participants will pay the participants fee on arrival, at the registration.

Interregional Youth Forum “Team-2011”

The Interregional Youth Forum “Team-2011” will be held on August 8 – 15, 2011 in Vologda Oblast, Russia. The forum is expected to gather about 600 young people from Vologda Oblast, other Russian regions and from abroad.

The educational programme will be divided into several sections, one of which will be “International cooperation”. It is aimed to promote intercultural dialogue, youth cooperation, provide a platform where young people can share their rich experience, give an opportunity to develop international projects and find partners for them. The organizing committee is inviting 30 participants from abroad to the section.

Duration: August 8 – 15, 2011.

Venue: campground, Velikiy Ustyug district, Vologda Oblast, Russia.

Number of participants of the section: 60: 30 – from Russia; 30 – from abroad.
Working languages of the section: Russian and English.
Costs reimbursement: 70% of travel costs are reimbursed for the foreign participants. Food, accommodation (in a campground) and equipment are provided by the organizing committee.

Aim of the section “International cooperation”:

- to encourage young people in Vologda Oblast to be more active and involved in youth cooperation on the international level.

Objectives of the section “International cooperation”:

- to conduct educational activities on such topics as international relations and international cooperation;

- to conduct workshops and practice sessions on project design, social management;

- to provide conditions for the participants from different countries to share their experience in the field of youth policy;

- to provide a platform where the participants can discuss such issues of today’s world as xenophobia, racism, ways of solving them and promoting tolerance;

- to conduct an entertainment programme;

- to give the participants an opportunity to learn more about Russian language, culture and history and its place in the international community;

- to provide efficient communication for those participants, who do not speak Russian.

Educational programme:

1.      Lectures on the theory of international relations (international relations, international communication, globalization, global issues as ecology, interreligious conflicts, terrorism, overpopulation, etc.).

2.      Practical sessions on project development (idea generating, project design).

3.      Activities on Russian culture (Russia and Russian language in today’s world, cultural traditions of Russian people).

4.      Round tables (discussions of youth policy in different countries, youth as a global stakeholder, today’s hot issues).

5.      Intercultural events (presentation of countries, cultures, folk traditions).

Profile of the participants for the “International cooperation” section:
- young leaders who are actively involved in youth work, in social projects in their own countries;
- young people who are willing to develop mutual cooperation with the international community;
- people who have participated in international projects, events or/and organized one in their home countries;
- young people who are interested in learning about Russia, its language, history and culture, understand its role in the global community and wish to foster the international dialogue with this country;
 

Priority will be given to those young people, who speak both Russian and English. If a person speaks only one of the mentioned languages, he/she should be at least involved in learning the other.

International Student Week in Timisoara (ISWinT) 2011

ISWinT team is proud to announce that preparations for this year’s festival, which will take place between the 18th and 27th of July, are in full swing. ISWinT (International Student Week in Timisoara, Romania) is an international festival that gathers participants from all over the world each year since 1994. The purpose of this festival is to give the students from different countries the opportunity to communicate freely, to express their opinions in a productive manner, while enjoying a taste of our local culture. The theme for this summer is “Celebrate Innovation. Keep Tradition”. The reason behind this particular choice of words is to emphasize the antithesis that appears between tradition and innovation, two sides of a continuously flipping coin.

During the 10 days of festival the participants have the opportunity to make new friends, discover the Romanian culture, discuss and express their opinions during the workshops or while attending the conferences. As a means to relax and have fun, they get to attend parties, themed evenings, or afternoons dedicated to recreational activities, such as games, sports, or simply escape into the tranquility of nature. Romania's beautiful landscapes are revealed during the two-day trip when we will visit the surroundings of Timisoara. 

Program

The festival program is composed of 13 different workshops and a number of cultural events and study trips.

Costs

There is a 100 euro participation fee that will cover accommodation, food (3 meals/day), free entrance to parties and all the places we will visit, the costs for the trip in the surroundings of Timisoara, transportation around the city during the festival and materials for the workshops. The 100 euro fee does not include travel expenses to and from Timisoara and visa costs.

Application and Eligibility

All you have to do is fill out the application form until May 15, 2011, and we'll contact you by June 10 if you are selected! There are also some conditions required for eligibility: it's absolutely necessary for you to be an 18-28 years old student. The working language of the festival is English.

Convention of Young European Citizens 2011 in France

Convention of Young European Citizens 2011 will take place on 7 – 17 July 2011 in Cluny Abbey, Burgundy, France.  Since 2001, more than 460 young people from more than 30 different countries have come together at the Convention of Young European Citizens in Cluny. This year’s themes will be threefold and interconnected. The first one, ‘The Environment’, will be dealt with along with Energy Resources. The second one, ‘Economic Development’, will take into account the economic crisis we are currently experiencing. The last one, ‘Social Progress’, puts a particular emphasis on the current circumstances regarding social issues. We will propose food for thought and will suggest a few proposals on each topic separately and on the whole issue.

Since 2001, the Convention of Young European Citizens has received the label “Université Européenne d’Eté“ from the French Ministry of Youth, Education and Research (Ministère de la Jeunesse, de l’Education Nationale et de la Recherche) every year.

• Theoretical lectures : conferences and interventions
• Hands-on teaching : negotiation and mediation training
• Intercultural and interdisciplinary exchanges
• Active participation through dialogue and Open Space debating techniques
• Experts are available on site
• Participants are guided through the process by an experienced team of Cluny alumni

The summer school can grant ECTS credits (a certificate of participation is sent to the participants after the approval of a final report).

Eligibility

Interested students of any faculties over 20 (the candidates must be born before 1 st January 1991).  Apart from these language skills, no other academic or professional qualifications are required. Working languages are French and English.

First International Conference on Youth Development (ICYOUTH 2011)

The First International Conference on Youth Development (ICYOUTH 2011) that will be held in Putrajaya, Malaysia on 1-3 November 2011 aims to explore issues surrounding the current state and role of adult-youth relations in forging and nurturing positive youth development. Diverse perspectives are sought from those who work with, and on behalf of, young people from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds with a focus on how youth and adults currently engage one another to forge meaningful relationships for promoting young peoples’ healthy development.

We invite academicians, researchers, graduate students, stakeholders, youth professionals, NGOs and other interested parties to participate by exchanging and sharing their experiences, new ideas, and research findings.

Objectives

1.To broaden participants understanding of the critical role that adults play in youth development-related efforts through the sharing of research, information and experiences.

2.To identify the sources of sustainability for youth-adult partnerships and their relationship to economic, community, cultural and social factors both locally and internationally.

3.To create an effective forum for cooperation among paper presenters and participants

4.To provide input for strengthening National Youth Development Policies and other policies related to youth development.

Abstract submission process

Acceptance of Abstract : If your abstract of no more than 250 words is accepted by the review team and you pay the conference fee by the specified deadline, your submission will be scheduled in an appropriate session for oral presentation at the conference.

Final paper submission process

If your abstract is accepted for oral presentation, you are encouraged to submit a full paper before 11 July 2011 for inclusion in the ICYOUTH 2011 Conference Proceedings. The full article should be submitted in Word (NOT .pdf). Final papers should be sent via email to icyouth2011@gmail.com. Please ensure that your paper is ready to go to press by the submission deadline, having thoroughly read the paper for errors. If English is not your first language then this is especially important. To facilitate easier processing, reviewing, and publishing all submissions, PLEASE follow this checklist:

• 12-point Times New Roman font
• Single-spacing throughout the document
• Double space (instead of indent) to designate a new paragraph or section
• Page numbers at the bottom center of each page.
• Top, bottom, and side margins no less than 1 inch or 2.5 cm.
• Cover page that includes title, authors, their affiliations, their contact information, and the topic of the submission.
• Title, authors and affiliations repeated at the beginning of the body of the paper.
• Manuscripts longer than 5,000 words will be returned for editing.
• Graphs and visuals can be reproduced electronically.

ISWiB 2011 - “Communication in Action!”

ISWiB 2011 applications are now open! ISWiB 2011 (International Student Week in Belgrade) will be held for the fifth time this year, in the period from 10th till 17th July 2011 in Belgrade, capital of Serbia, under the motto “Communication in Action!”. The festival will gather approximately 200 participants from the whole of Europe, with the aim of exchanging opinions and views about the hot issues that a modern society has to face, as well as overcoming global differences through a communication, personal contacts and mutual understanding.

ISWiB is a meeting platform for young people with different cultural backgrounds; it is a place to get to know each other, establish new friendships and discuss various topics, from various points of view. Through close communication and cooperation, interactive lectures and workshops, students will be able to gain new knowledge and exchange ideas in the fields of PR & marketing, environmental protection, green economy, online media, youth activism, debate, theatre, NLP, graffiti, photography and filmmaking. Students will also have an opportunity to establish professional contacts with eminent professors and professionals from different fields and develop and create new projects by themselves.

Our goal is to establish international cooperation and contacts by creating a healthy working environment and enabling stronger bonds among domestic and foreign students. By promoting the idea of the "citizen of Europe" and "citizen of the World", we insist on embracing intercultural and European values and bringing them to a global level of mutual respect and understanding.

This year, the participants of ISWiB 011 can simbolically choose from the following 11 workshops:

Apart from these 11 workshops led by partner organizations, the educational program will include a panel discussion and open lectures dealing with the communication issues in modern society. As the goal of ISWiB is promoting idea of “Citizen of the World”, not only through the exchange of knowledge, opinions and ideas, but also by making friendships, ISWiB 011 will be an opportunity for lots of cultural manifestations, day trips, and parties. Again, Country Fair and MTV concert will be central events of cultural program.

The participation fee is 90 euros for foreign students, and covers accomodation, food and workshop materials. For Serbian students, the participation fee is 45 euros and doesn’t cover accomodation.

All students studying at European universities, fluent in English are eligible to apply.

The United States Meets Europe: A Forum for Young Leaders

The United States Meets Europe is a network of likeminded individuals from across the world, who have an active interest in international affairs, cultural exchange, and the European-American relationship. Members can join the forum by taking part in a USAME Weeklong Seminar. The forthcoming USAME Weeklong Seminar will be held in Washington DC & New York on 3rd – 9th January 2011, and will focus on the following theme: “Beyond Mars and Venus: The Transatlantic Relationship in the New World Order.”

The Forum is aimed at young professionals and students, economists, diplomatic and political representatives, and civil society practitioners. The weeklong seminar will consist of lectures, seminars, workshops and panel discussions by leading figures from the fields of politics, diplomacy, civil society, academia, and the private sector, which will offer a range of perspectives on the issues at stake, the challenges ahead, and the new strategies and approaches being taken to address these challenges. The program will be complemented by cultural and social activities that will provide an opportunity to experience the diversity of the respective cultures and provide networking opportunities between the participants themselves, as well as between the participants and speakers.

In particular, the next USAME Weeklong Seminar will focus on the following themes:

Institute for Cultural Diplomacy

The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy is an international, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization with headquarters in Berlin, Germany. The goal of the ICD is to promote global peace and stability through strengthening and supporting intercultural relations at all levels. Over the past decade the ICD has grown to become one of Europe’s largest independent cultural exchange organizations, whose programs facilitate interaction between individuals of all cultural, academic, and professional backgrounds, from across the world. 

Previous events held by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy include “A World without Walls: An International Congress on “Soft Power”, Cultural Diplomacy and Interdependence”, which marked the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.  In February, 2010, the ICD hosted the Berlin International Economics Congress: An Interdisciplinary Analysis of the Roles of Global Politics & Civil Society in International Economics. In May 2010 the ICD hosted The International Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy 2010.

The Weeklong Seminar is open to students and young professionals with an interest in transatlantic relations, as well as international stakeholders from civil society, the media, the private sector, and international politics.

ISWinT 2010

Applications are now open for the 17th edition of the International Student Week in Timisoara that will take place between the 19th and 26th of July, 2010 in Timisoara, Romania.

"Closed Eyes, Open Mind” is the theme of this years festival. Nowadays we are surrounded by bright colors and technology which keeps us away from the important things in life. Join us and together we will cross the borders of imagination trying to close our eyes and open our minds.

ISWinT (International Students Week in Timisoara) is an international festival that gathers participants from all over the world each spring since 1994. The purpose of this festival is to give an opportunity to the students from different countries to communicate freely, to express their opinions, to interact in a better way, and debate on different themes.

During the 7 days of festival the participants have the opportunity to make new friends, to know the Romanian culture, to discuss, to express their opinions during the workshops, to attend the conferences. There is a possibility to relax and to have fun each night at the parties and at the sports afternoon. Romania's beautiful landscape is revealed during the one-day trip, when we visit the surroundings.

To be eligible for participation, you currently need to be a student and have good English skills. Participants will be chosen on the basis of their motivation essays.

14th International Culture Week in Pécs

The International Culture Week in Pécs (ICWiP) is one of the most popular annual youth cultural festivals organized in the City Pécs, Hungary. ICWiP has inspired more than 3000 young people from more than 80 countries during its 13 year-long history. Now you are invited, too. This year the festival will be held on 24 July - 1 August.

Its programme combines a summer school, different cultural and sport activities, and an inspiring festival with concerts, danceshows, and exhibitions.

The one-week-long summer visit to Pécs is not just a pile of workshops and enjoyable late night events. It is about building an international community of young, open-minded, ambitious people. The participants from previous years could all justify this statement.

Our aim is not just to gather the youth from all four corners of the world to Pécs, only to spend a week together and move home with the same social web they came with. Not only experiences are being exchanged here, but e-mail and postal adresses, phone numbers, even intimate secrets with newly acquired friends.

The things that matter as the years go on are not solely the knowledge the participants gain, or the cheerful memories linked to locations and occations in the city, but invaluable relationships that link continents and nations together.

The theme of ICWiP2010 is Balkans: Re-loaded, which stems from the concept of the original European Capital of Culture application of the city of Pécs. The geopolitical area of the Balkans is unique and at the same time very multicultural. In 2010 Pécs may become the first European Capital of Culture to open a gateway to the rich multiculturalism of the Balkans, including its Islamic heritage. During the conference and festival we will be discussing what a “Balkans identity” is or whether it even exists.

How does today's youth reflect the national identities in relation to a possible “Balkans identity”? How does the youth view the future of the area? The formation process of the Balkan nations is important from the viewpoint of democracy. Keeping this in mind we have invited lecturers also from other counties and continents to share their views and experiences on the democracy development in practice.

The participation fee covers accommodation, board (2 warm meals per day), local transport, sightseeing, entrance fees, and free participation in trips, conference programme, cultural and sport events of ICWiP2010.

Fee for individuals: 190 EUR / person. Early bird registration: 140 EUR / person, if you register and transfer the fee until 15 April. Individuals coming from specific countries (related to this year's theme), including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia: 120 EUR / person. Discount for groups: For every 5 persons registered as a group (e.g. group from Torino, group from the University of Nitra, etc.) each person receives a 20% discount from the fee.
