Belgrade Summer School 2010

Belgrade Summer School (BSS) is an annual international language school taking place in Belgrade and Serbia. This year it is organised in two sessions, two weeks each,  from 12 July to 8 August 2010 (12-25 July and 26 July-8 August). Belgrade Summer School is an event gathering young people from across the world with the aim of getting them to know Belgrade and Serbia, places of great cultural and historical heritage, as well as enhancing their communicational skills.

BSS is a national event with international participants. Students have the opportunity to improve on their knowledge of a language of their choice through an intensive two-week programme, with the help of lecturers certified by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). Belgrade Summer School offers 10 languages to choose from (Serbian, English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Greek, Russian, Chinese and Arabic), each with two levels of knowledge.

The BSS 2010 programme is divided into two parts: educational and social. The first is comprised of 30-hour language study sessions, whereas the second includes full-day and half-day guided tours of Belgrade and Serbia, which enables participants to get familiar with the culture and history of the country.

The main goals of Belgrade Summer School are as follows:
1. Bringing together young people from abroad who will get to know our country and the locals alike and form long-lasting relationships with other participants.
2. Enabling the members of the Serbian Diaspora to participate in the programme for learning their mother tongue during the summer and deepen their knowledge of Serbian culture, customs and history.
3. Introducing vocational trainings for young people for who the knowledge of foreign languages is a prerequisite for a successful career.
 
The mission of BSS is to enhance international communication through inter-cultural youth exchange in the same fashion as any other summer schools throughout the world, the BSS project is conceived to contribute to the multi-level improvement of its participants: professional, cultural and social.

eYouwins 2010: Act Now - Change the Future

The fifth European Youth Week in Novi Sad (Green Week in Novi Sad: Act Now - Change the Future) will be held between 17th and 24th August 2010 in Novi Sad, Serbia.

In 2010 eYouwins celebrates 5th birthday and invites 200 participants to come to Novi Sad, between 17th and 24th August; to focus on green ways of life and sustainable development of our society. Therefore, this year eYouwins is Green Week in Novi Sad (greenWins). The motto and the title Green Week in Novi Sad: Act Now - Change the Future is motivated by the prime importance that young people understand and value the significance of concept of the harmonious coexistence of humans and nature. The youth of today have to be aware of the challenges of sustainable development and climate change as they will lead and live the changes required responding to them. Therefore we are creating platform which will enable participants to explore the human, social and educational aspects of this important issue through discussions, workshops and conferences.

The mission of greenWins is to promote green way of life and potential that lies in the harmonic relationship between humans and the environment. The project targets young people at the first place, for the simple reason that environmental sustainability affects their lives today and their futures more than anyone else. They have the potential, ability and influence needed to create change. It is clear that young people’s involvement in the present trends of development will ensure a sustainable future for themselves and for future generations.

The task of greenWins is to cultivate a sense of environmental ownership and responsibility in youth and overall community, ensuring that local and global sustainability efforts will continue into the future. Participants will work together in both theoretical and practical workshops and learn about recycling, applied ecology, water protection and clean energy. Additionally, numerous concrete actions will be organized during the week targeting and involving local population in Novi Sad.

Since participants will come from many different countries, it is a good occasion to learn from each other’s cultural and social background in order to find a common field of cooperation. This learning experience will be additionally amplified by multinational and multireligious surrounding of Novi Sad and Vojvodina. In order to address different needs of participants and to fulfill project goals in an innovative way, program of the eYouwins is structured as a combination of three elements: education, action and fun. Synergy of these festival elements will lead to fulfilling project objectives.

Participation fee for greenWins is 60 Euro for international participants and 3000 Dinars for the participants from Serbia. The participation fee covers accommodation, and meals during the Festival (light brekfast, lunch and dinner per day), organised excursions, sightseeing, entrance fees, and free participation in trips, conference programme, cultural and sport events of the Festival. The fee does not include travel costs and personal expenses. Accepted participants will pay the participants fee on arrival, at the registration. 

Eligibility. Youth from Serbia and all over Europe, aged between 18 and 28 years; all European students as well as those from other continents currently studying in Europe can apply for eYouwins2010. Young people from all backgrounds are welcome. There are no special requirements. The official language of eYouwins is English. It is expected that 30% of all participants will be from Serbia.

Summer School in Comparative Conflict Studies

The Center for Comparative Conflict Studies at the Faculty of Media and Communications (FMK), Singidunum University invites you to apply for the Summer School in Comparative Conflict Studies. The 2010 Summer School will run on 20th -27th June and will take place at the facilities of the Faculty of Media and Communications in Belgrade.

The Summer School in Comparative Conflict Studies provides a learning opportunity for students interested in study and analysis of societies in and post-conflict. Interdisciplinary in its nature, drawing from the fields of Conflict Analysis and Resolution, History, sociology and International Relations, the Summer School in Comparative Conflict Studies will provide students with an interactive learning experience utilizing frontal lectures and class discussions focusing on comparative conflict analysis of difference case studies.

 The organizers are offering three courses to choose from:
* Managing Violent Pasts: The Case of Northern Ireland
* Dilemmas of National Minorities: The Case of the Palestinian Citizens of Israel
* After the Violence: The Break Up of Yugoslavia and its Consequences
 
Language of instruction in all courses is English.

Undergraduate, graduate students, NGO leaders and activists from all countries are invited to apply.

With the support of the Robert Bosch Stiftung, scholarships are available for participants from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Additional scholarships are available for a number of students from other conflict or post-conflict regions.
Scholarships may include tuition (up to 200 euro), accommodation and travel costs.

International Student Week in Belgrade 2010

For the fourth time this summer Belgrade will be the place to be for students from all around Europe. International Student Week in Belgrade 2010 will take place from 11th to 18th of July. This years festivals motto is "Do we tolerate intolerance?"

All European students and those from the other continents but studying in Europe at the moment can apply for ISWiB. All fields of study are welcome, there are no special requirements. Recently graduated students are also welcome. 

As the goal of ISWiB is the breaking of national, religious, cultural and language barriers, not only through the exchange of knowledge, opinions and ideas, but also by making friends and hanging out with each other, ISWiB 2010 will be an opportunity for lots of fun, cultural manifestations, day trips, and parties.

As previous years, participants will have a chance to participate in one of 10 workshops from different fields. 

This years workshops are:

• Photography
• Marketing
• Arts & Crafts
• Youth Activism
• Media
• Performing Arts
• Sustainable Development
• Environmental Protection

The participation fee is 80 euros for foreign students, and covers accomodation, food and workshop materials. For Serbian students, the participation fee is 40 euros and doesn't cover accomodation.

EFRI Summer School

After the success of the first five Summer Schools, the Faculty of Economics and Jean Monnet Chair of the University of Rijeka, Croatia, are organizing the VIth International Summer School entitled «International Environment and European Integration» which will be held from July 5th to July 17th 2010, in Rijeka.

The goal of the EFRI Summer School is to broaden the knowledge of students of economics, law and other related studies on the basics of the economic integration process in Europe (focusing on Croatia and South East Europe), and to point out the advantages and challenges of economic integration in everyday life.

The EFRI Summer School 2010 is open to both undergraduates (preferably close to finishing their degrees), graduate and postgraduate students of Business and Economics and other Social Studies.

The course work will consist of lectures, workshops and an assignment to be completed in groups with the support of course supervisors. Due to its specific approach to the European Union & the International Environment, this course will suite both the students who already have a basic knowledge of EU matters and those who want to know more.

The Summer School program is developed in cooperation with the local community, successful Croatian companies, domestic and foreign institutions. Classes will be held by lecturers from Croatian and European Universities, as well as other institutions. Classes are completely in English and will be held at the Faculty of Economics Rijeka. Participants will learn about Europe and will be awarded 6 ECTS credits. The number of applications is limited: in case of a larger turnout of applicants, candidates will be shortlisted.

Accommodation and a wide array of social events will be arranged for the students: visits to Croatian companies, get-together-parties, day-trips and excursions. All these events have been designed for university students and with a student budget in mind.

The registration fee is 600 EUR. It includes:
- tuition fee and study materials,
- accommodation (dormitory rooms),
- meals and refreshments (breakfast and lunch),
- public transportation (bus ticket),
- company visits and excursions.

EFRI Summer School provides a limited number of partial scholarships for talented students, to be given primarily to applicants from Croatia or countries where local scholarship funds are more limited and Universities with whom the Faculty of Economics Rijeka has cooperation agreements. To apply for scholarship, fill in the scholarship application form and post it with other application materials. In this form candidates should explain reasons for financial support.

Seminar on Market Freedoms and Fundamental Rights

Jean Monnet Chair of European Public Law of the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Law organizes International Seminar on Market Freedoms and Fundamental Rights which will be held on April 18-25, 2010, in IUC Dubrovnik.

The Seminar is aimed for:
- undergraduate and graduate students of law
- doctoral students and researchers
- junior public servants

A limited number of travel and subsistance grants will be offered to participants presenting a research paper. Deadline for submission of abstracts (500 words) is January 15, 2010. Selected candidates will be invited to submitt the paper in Dubrovnik. Deserving contributions will be published in the Croatian Yearbook of European Law & Policy. There is a possibility to participate in the seminar without presenting a paper.

- submission of paper proposals: January 15, 2010
- submission of papers: April 10, 2010
- submission of final papers for publication: June 15, 2010

Grants:

Authors of accepted papers will receive grants covering reasonable travel expenses and lodging with breakfast for 4 days. There is no need to submit any additional grant applications.

A limited number of grants is availible for advanced students and young professionals (participants without paper).

Applicants from non-EU European states who want to take part at the conference (without paper) may be elegible for IUC grants. Such applicants should submitt the grant application form and submitt it to the IUC directly.

International Conference "Dialogue of Languages, Cultures and Civilizations"

The Department of Slavic and Balkan Languages of the School of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana, Albania, in collaboration with the Trakya University, Edirne, Turkey, organize an International Conference "Dialogue of Languages, Cultures and Civilizations". The event will take place on 8, 9, 10 April 2010 at the School of Foreign Languages, University of Tirana, Albania. Interested persons are invited to take part at the Conference by submitting a paper. 

Preferred subjects:
- Problems Regarding Translation from/to Balkan and/or Slavic languages
- Teaching of Balkan and/or Slavic Languages
- Reception of the Balkans in Europe
- Reception of Europe in the Balkans
- Balkan Features in Language / Literature / Art
- Dialectological Approach of Balkan Linguistic Relations.

Other relevant subjects may also be introduced.

Languages of the conference are English, Russian and all Balkan languages. English translation of the paper must be distributed to participants before reading the paper.

Conference registration fee is 30 Euros. For members of academic staffs (professors, university teachers, students) the registration fee is 10 Euros.

The Organizing Committee is compound by professors from both University of Tirana and Trakya University, Edirne.

Participants are asked to announce by 15 February 2010 the title of the paper and to deliver by 15 March 2010 an abstract of the paper in English. Participants will be notified whether the paper is accepted by 20  March 2010. Conference registration fee should be paid upon registration.

Accommodation: Participants should cover expenses for their accommodation. However, the Organizing Committee will take care to provide facilities and ensure reduced prices for participants.

5th World Youth Congress

The 5th in the great series of World Youth Congresses on Youth and Development will be held in Istanbul, Turkiye in 2010!


Turkey will welcome 1000 young people from around the world to meet during Istanbul's year as the European Capital of Culture. You will have the chance to learn a lot about Turkish culture, about Turkish people, and the history of one of the oldest civilizations of the world - which is now the 2nd fastest growing modern economy in the world after China.

The congress will bring together youth led development activists, young journalists, young educators, young artists, young entrepreneurs and virtual delegates. The delegates will have the chance to meet many development experts, academics, politicians, artists and diplomats in the discussions, workshops, plenaries and opening and closing ceremonies. Moreover, many young people who do not have the opportunity to attend the congress onsite, will have the chance to participate through the virtual congress as virtual delegates.

The main aim of WYC is to gather together young people from different nationalities and to inspire  them take action on issues such as poverty, climate change, peace, democracy and human rights. However, this event will also enable you to find out more about Turkey, Turkish society and Turkish culture, and especially the old Turkish solidarity system, “imece”.

There is no participation fee to be a part of this great event.
