On The Beach Improves Their Attribution Modeling and Increases ROI by 25%

Attribution modeling is the process of distributing credit between different marketing channels that a consumer interacts with, prior to completing a purchase. As online reporting becomes increasingly sophisticated, attribution modeling helps advertisers to understand the purchase journey of their users and find the most effective ways of targeting new customer segments.

Online travel specialist On the Beach used Multi Channel Funnels and the Attribution Modeling Tool in Google Analytics to understand which marketing campaigns were driving their sales. They analysed all of their online marketing channels and search campaigns to uncover their true performance. On the Beach compared different attribution models to assess the relative contribution of each of their campaigns to their online sales. They found that generic (non-brand) campaigns for travel destinations and holiday terms were driving more sales than were being reported via traditional “last click” methods.

By understanding the true value driven by their generics campaigns, On the Beach were able to reach more potential customers when they searched with generic keywords, by increasing their investment. As a result, they have seen significant growth in sales and revenue, with a 25% increase in return on investment. The full On the Beach case study can be found here.

These findings were also supported in a recent case study with lastminute.com, where they found that generics were driving 43% more sales than were reported through their online analytics. The lastminute.com case study can be found here.

Top Dissertation Structuring Tips

The hardest part of gaining a Master’s degree apart from the extensive research it requires is the dissertation writing process. Many students have a problem with the structuring process which, if mastered would make the whole process easy and straightforward.

The dissertation structure is critical first because it displays the work in a way you can work easy. The structure also makes the research look live and real. It facilitates the research mapping process, which is the biggest challenge you would face without.

Top dissertation structure tips
  • 1.  Always plan your structure in a visually clear manner. According to experts, using a diagrams, gaps and text and images to actually map out how the dissertation will look works wonders. It enables you visualize the whole project and this makes work much easier.
  • 2.  The Introduction and a conclusion are the parts that must never miss out on a dissertation. There are also smaller bits of the paper you must understand to ensure that it meets all guidelines. In many cases, different colleges treat the extras like dissertation methodologies, literature reviews and bibliographies different.
  • 3. Always have a word limit in mind. To get this in perspective, when you are mapping out the dissertation structure, arrange to have the different sections with a word count limit. This way, you can create a way to collect enough words for the entire paper.
  • 4. Always remember to have your strongest points early on in the essay. These points should be structured to flow with each other according to message, bringing clarity and meaning to the dissertation.
  • 5.  Place ideas which sound similar next to each other. Those which differ should be at two distinct ends to improve clarity and understanding. It’s also a way of ensuring that the readers aren’t confused.
  • 6.  Make it readable. This does not matter whether your essay is done at masters or undergraduate level. The examiners want the dissertations easy to follow, understand and remember. The most memorable and useful dissertations are written in simple and readable language. As such, keep your sentences short, lively and distinct. Keeping different ideas separate can also help you achieve readability.
  • 7. Use bulleted points and numerical digits to break up structure. Psychologists say that these techniques encourage readers. Whether these make the structure less clogged or scattered, numbers and bullets also help readers understand the dissertations better.
  • 8.  It’s also important to structure the dissertation in a way that clarifies the message. For instance, if you used different sources to clarify ideas, make these clear in the implementation of the structure. It will make it easy for readers to follow.
  • 9.  Use signpost sentences to direct the readers. These means that the sentences or titles tell readers what they will expect when they read on. They will also be the guidance when implementing the visual structure of the dissertation.
  • 10. Refer back or point forward where necessary. It makes no sense to keep repeating statements in their dissertation because these eventually make it repetitive. As we discussed, as you will see are just some of the statements you can use to direct readers without repeating.
  • Overall, what matters for a dissertation is how direct, stable and clear structure determine whether or not a writing is effective. Try to make your dissertation clear by keeping away vagueness.

XVI Summer School of Economics in Belgrade

The Institute of Economic Sciences, Belgrade, is organizing the 16th annual Summer School of Economics on July 15th – July 19th 2013. It was started in 1998, triggered by the need to provide education about emerging market economy and contemporary economic trends that were excluded from the formal system of education at the time. Since the Summer School gathers students from the entire region of the Western Balkans, it not only offers students the opportunity to learn from distinguished lecturers, both from Serbia and abroad, but also the chance to meet their peers from the region, and establish friendships and networks that will be important in their future careers.

The focus of the previous Summer Schools was on economic policy, and its related fields, such as social policy, education and labor market policies, issues of poverty and inequality, etc. Students had the opportunity to attend lectures from leading experts in the field of economic and social policy. A further topic was institutional development in the context of economic development. Issues of poverty, inequality and living standard development in some of the European countries were presented in the context of long run economic perspectives. In addition, certain recommendations and experiences were highlighted for the developing countries and for Serbia as well. The proper place of financial capital in the modern economic system, a topic of special interest today, and the one which brought forward the loudest calls for state regulation and intervention, were also presented. In connection with this, different views could be found regarding to the concrete steps that should be taken to solve the consequences of the economic crisis.

The topics that were taught at the last year’s Summers School included economic growth, monetary policy issues, social market economy, lessons learned from the economic crises, activities of international organizations in Serbia etc. Universities and institutions the lecturers of the 15th Summer School came from included London School of Economics (Great Britain), University of Belgrade (Serbia), World Bank, International Monetary Fund, USAID, National Bank of Serbia, Securities’ Commission, Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany), F.A. von Hayek Institute (Austria).

The students of economics, law and social sciences from the region will have a possibility to share their critical views with the lecturers from both academia and practice. The students will have the opportunity to attend the lectures given by the professors from the prestigious world and local universities. Furthermore, students will have an excellent opportunity to find out more about how economic policy making looks like “from the inside”, as they will attend lectures of top-level policymakers in Serbia. Youth Future Conference 2013 in Bonn

From September 1st to 7th, the European Conference on Sustainability for young adults (18-28 years) will be held in Bonn. This conference is organised by a German group of students within the network of the Youth Future Project.

Imagine that YOU can come together with 100 other young people from all over Europe, 20 junior scientists and about 6 Laureates of the Right Livelihood Award (“Alternative Nobel Prize”) and the German Environment Prize. Together, on an eye-to-eye level and from an interdisciplinary and multi-perspective angle, you will work on challenges and innovative solutions in the field of sustainability .

During workshops, lectures, and discussions you will learn about the views and actions of important activists in the field of sustainability and you can gain an integrated understanding of the multidimensional challenges of environmental problems. We want to enable you to make new personal experiences and encounter new methodological approaches to sustainabilty issues. The multi-perspective approach shall encourage us to go beyond our academic disciplinary frameworks.

Therefore, during this four-day-long process, we will take a look at central challenges in the field of sustainablity in small working goups. During the conference lecturers from various fields (e.g. economy, ecology or social science) will be present in the working goups. So we will learn to understand the different challenges sustainability poses to various stakeholders and actors.

During the conference we will use our new knowledge and experiences as advice for future actions and practical next steps that you can implement through journalistic, academic research, civil-societal  or environmental projects, which we will initiate in the last days of the conference.

The most promising ideas, developed during the conference, will be supported for one year in the “Visionaries in Action”-support-programme. They will be offered a starting capital of up to 2.000 Euros as well as coaching and professional seminars in NPO-project management.

Costs
The contribution-fee for early applications amounts to 115 EUR until May, 31st. From June, 1st on the minimum contribution is 145 EUR, although you can choose to pay more in order to help other participants come to the conference who would otherwise not be able to join us.

Scholarships
If you want to come to the conference but can not cover the expenses for the participation fee and/or the travel cost, you can apply for the Youth Future Conference’s Scholarship. The scholarship follows the principle of solidarity: People who can afford paying a higher participation fee enable financial less situated people to come to the conference by paying more than indicated. The scholarship is dedicated only to people between 18 and 30 years living or studying in Europe.

The number of scholarships granted depends on how many people apply for the scholarship and for how much money they apply. For the organizers it is much easier to cover the participation fee than the travel expenses. Of cause it is possible to, for example, only apply for a part of your travel expenses. For example when your whole itinerary is about 200€  and you can only cover 100€ by yourself, you can apply for the remaining 100€. You can check more info and apply for scholarship grant here.

The first places will be confirmed from the 3rd of June on. After this more places will be given out continuously.

If you would like to participate, but do not know, if you are really invited, for example because you feel to old, or to young, or because your are not living in Europe, please get in touch. In many cases we will find a solution. Just shoot us an email at conference@youthfuture.de
